Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has responded to concerns from Ghanaians over the performance of the Black Stars, saying the government remains committed to accountability and responsible management of public resources.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Adams said the government, working with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), reduced the proposed budget for two Black Stars matches from about US$2 million to US$1.3 million, resulting in savings of roughly US$700,000.
He also highlighted the decision to remove match-winning bonuses for members of the Black Stars Management Committee as part of efforts to strengthen accountability in the management of the national team.
Earlier reports indicated that the approved budget for two 2025 World Cup qualifying matches was about US$1.32 million, compared with a GFA request of approximately US$2.05 million.
Mr. Adams said the measures were taken while ensuring that essential requirements for the team were funded.
“I will keep listening, protecting public resources and holding those responsible to their commitments,” he said, adding that rebuilding confidence in Ghanaian football would require accountability and continued support.
His comments come amid renewed public discussion about the performance and management of the Black Stars following recent results. The Sports Ministry has said it is not considering dissolving the GFA, despite calls for major changes in Ghana football.
