President John Dramani Mahama has visited communities affected by the recent flooding in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region and donated relief items to residents affected by the disaster.
The flooding followed the overflow of the River Dayi after heavy rainfall, affecting several low-lying communities, including Hohoe Zongo and other areas along the river. NADMO has reported thousands of affected residents and more than 4,000 affected households.
During his visit on Friday, October 2, President Mahama expressed sympathy to affected families and presented items including rice, maize, mattresses, mats, roofing sheets, tinned fish, cooking oil, sanitary products, tissue paper and baby diapers.
Mr. Mahama said changing weather patterns were contributing to extreme weather events and stressed the need for Ghana to adapt and invest in resilient infrastructure.
The President also noted that the Lordina Foundation’s renovated and expanded Hohoe Adabraka Hospital remained operational and was not affected by the floodwaters.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by government, NADMO and other stakeholders to provide relief and support to affected communities as residents begin recovering from the disaster.
