Ghana and Philippines Agree to Deepen Trade and Labour Cooperation

Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and labour mobility following a high-level meeting between officials from both countries.

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with the Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During the meeting, Ablakwa commended the Philippine government for its decision to open an Embassy in Ghana later this year, describing the move as an important development in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to deepen trade and investment cooperation, organise business forums in both Ghana and the Philippines, and work towards establishing a Chamber of Commerce to facilitate stronger business ties.

According to Ablakwa, Ghana and the Philippines further agreed to exchange ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements, potentially creating opportunities for professionals and workers from both countries.

The Ghanaian Foreign Affairs Minister also said he looked forward to hosting his Philippine counterpart in Ghana following an invitation extended to her.

The latest engagement is expected to strengthen relations between Ghana and the Philippines while opening new opportunities in trade, investment, business and labour mobility.
