Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem Sai, has said Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is wanted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with an investigation into alleged financial offences.
According to Justice Srem Sai, an Accra High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of the MP following an ongoing EOCO inquiry into alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
He said the investigation concerns alleged offences including financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.
“I can confirm that the High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr Agyei Baffour Awuah,” Justice Srem Sai stated, adding that the warrant followed the MP’s alleged failure to honour EOCO invitations issued in February 2026.
The High Court has also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents relevant to the investigation, after the Office told the court that efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary attendance had been unsuccessful.
The development follows an attempted arrest of Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23. EOCO said the action formed part of lawful steps to secure his attendance in an ongoing investigation.
Baffour Awuah has disputed EOCO’s account. He has said the February correspondence was addressed to him as Senior Partner of his former law firm in relation to SIC Life, which was a client of the firm. He also said a representative of the firm subsequently engaged EOCO on three occasions and submitted a written statement on April 30.
The allegations remain subject to investigation and should not be treated as established wrongdoing unless proven through the appropriate legal process.
