Ayalolo BRT Introduces Contra Flow on Major Accra Corridors

The Ayalolo Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service is set to operate under a new contra flow arrangement on the Kasoa, Adenta and Amasaman corridors from Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The arrangement, authorised by Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga, is aimed at helping Ayalolo buses bypass heavy traffic congestion during peak hours.

Under the new arrangement, BRT buses will operate against the normal direction of traffic during the following periods:

1. Morning: 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
2. Evening: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The initiative is expected to improve the movement of public transport buses and reduce delays for commuters travelling along the affected corridors.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) is expected to enforce the arrangement, while motorists have been urged to cooperate with traffic officers and exercise caution when approaching the designated BRT lanes.

Motorists using the Kasoa, Adenta and Amasaman routes have therefore been advised to take note of the new traffic arrangement and plan their journeys accordingly.
