The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama, has withdrawn a remark in which he described the recall of Parliament in August 2026 as “rude” and has apologised to the Speaker and the House.
The withdrawal followed a directive from the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, who said Members of Parliament are entitled to express their views and criticise parliamentary proceedings.
However, the Speaker stressed that such criticism must be expressed in a manner that respects the dignity of Parliament and the authority of the House.
Speaker Bagbin therefore called on the Walewale MP to withdraw the comment and render an apology to Parliament.
Dr Tiah Mahama subsequently withdrew the remark and apologised to the Speaker and Members of the House.
The Speaker reminded MPs of their responsibility to uphold the dignity, decorum and authority of Parliament when commenting on parliamentary proceedings and decisions.
The development highlights the importance of parliamentary rules and conduct in maintaining order and respect during proceedings of the House.
Members of Parliament are permitted to hold different views on parliamentary decisions and procedures, but the Speaker emphasised that such views should be communicated within the standards of parliamentary decorum.
Dr Tiah Mahama’s withdrawal and apology brought the matter to a close in the House.
