Manhyia South MP Denies GH¢2.2m SIC Legal Fee Claim

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has denied allegations that he or his law firm received GH¢2.2 million from a GH¢5 million SIC Life settlement as legal fees.

The MP explained that his legal fee in the matter was 15% of the total judgment debt, rejecting claims that GH¢2.2 million was paid to him or his firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.

He has also denied allegations that he or his firm transferred money to the then Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans.

Baffour Awuah further dismissed claims involving the alleged sale of a property for GH¢24 million, insisting that no such judicial sale took place and consequently no GH¢6 million from an alleged buyer was remitted to him or his firm.

His comments come amid an ongoing EOCO investigation into alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings & Loans and a separate dispute over EOCO's attempts to question him.

The MP has questioned whether EOCO is responsible for determining or regulating professional fees charged by lawyers.
