EOCO Clarifies GH¢50m Bail Report on Baffour Awuah

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reportedly described as false a circulating social media report claiming that it had granted Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah GH¢50 million bail.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reportedly described as false a circulating social media report claiming that it had granted Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah GH¢50 million bail.

The clarification has created some uncertainty over the MP’s current status, as the statement reportedly rejecting the circulating bail report does not, in itself, state whether Baffour Awuah has been granted bail or remains in EOCO custody.

Baffour Awuah voluntarily reported to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, to assist with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial offences. EOCO subsequently placed him under arrest and said he was cooperating with investigators.

However, reports from the Ghana News Agency and MyJoyOnline on Friday, October 2, stated that the MP had been granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties by EOCO.

The conflicting reports have left questions about the exact terms and status of the MP’s release.

The investigation concerns allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences. EOCO has stressed that the investigation is ongoing and that persons involved will be afforded their constitutional and legal rights.

Further clarification from EOCO is expected to establish whether the GH¢50 million bail reported by several media outlets was formally granted and, if so, under what conditions.
